    Hey guys,
I just bought one of those $25 Caswells hobby guns that needs refurbished. Since I haven't used a PC gun before, I need to know what are good settings to start with on the gun to see if it works properly. Should the regulating screw be tight or a certain number of turns from the seated position. What about the pressure reducing valve, should it be halfway in or again a certain number of turns? Lastely, the emitter how far into the gun should it be, is it even supposed to slide?

I usually back the reg screw out a full turn and spray . not all powders are equal and sometimes you may neeed to run the screw out a bit more, your air pressure can effect the setting also , as for the scatter tip i have mine set at 3/16 from the tip.

I hope you have better luck then I did. Below is a message I sent to Caswell after receiving the answer to my questions about what I purchased. I hope this goes through. It might just be considered not exceptable for the forum.

I purchased 3 of your $25. systems. I am new to the PC world. I had some questions. I sent them to your customer service for some help and maybe some answers.
          This is the reply I just received;

"No idea, sorry. We're not electronics experts here.

          That's why we dumped them."

Is this the kind of cooperation and service I can expect from your company?

I'll be getting mine shortly, and I can probably help you out once I look inside.

What did you end up getting? A used unit with an extra power supply that needs to be installed, or something like that?

You have to call them to get a gun. I got mine and all it needed was a good cleaning. I am still unclear about where to position the 3 pronged metal leshie , I mean emitter. Can someone tell me how far back it is?

Anyone know how to gonnect the new high voltage cable to the gun? I can't see any way of getting to the end of the cable to make a connection. Don't know that I want to splice that cable, could be a shocking experience.

I bought three of the guns and they all came with extra power supplies but, one of them had a beat up (scratched, banged up, broken mount tab) dirty power supply. I hope it works, it looks like it came out of the trash or a junk draw someplace.

It did come out of the trash. We'd junked the lot of them, but thought some people would have the smarts to figure out what was wrong with them and swallow hard if they didn't work.

                        Seems I got THAT wrong.

For the few bucks we wanted for the COST of the cups ($10) and the new wiring loom with a new foot pedal( $15), we thought it was a good deal.

I guess you you didn't have the smarts?

The original message said they needed electronic work. I can't believe you guys are complaining about this. The power supplies alone are probably worth 50 bucks.

Try splicing the HV inner conductor by stripping the ends 1/4 inch, soldering, insulating the splice with silicone, and shrink tubing over that. I'm pretty sure that the inner insulation is silicone.

And someone posted a schematic of the things here somewhere else, in some other thread.

Does anyone know what the voltage of these supplies is? My other gun from the Chinese Harbor measures 10 KV with a 100 megohm probe.
