  • Newbie questions: Why Powder Coat? and...is it easy?

I'm new to electroplating, and browsing the forums for that, got me curious about adding powder coating to my set up. But I guess i don't know why....would you powder coat vs. painting something, and is it easy to get started using the starter kit sold here, and buying an old electric oven for my garage? Thanks

    The kit here is fine.
It's very easy, more durable than liquid paint, covers better, not near the mess as liquid, and more

What he said. I've been doing it for a couple months and love it. I'm still learning but I love it.

come on guys if you tell every one how easy it is we will no longer be able to charge giant amounts of money for doing something this simple. ok heck was that out loud
when in doubt polish it out/ why replace it when you can refinish it

Thanks guys! I love this fourm... one more thing...is it dangerous? Ok, stop laughing...but i noticed on one of the spray guns, that it was in bold letters, DANGER, HIGH VOLTAGE, and i thought i read something about explosions during curing....I'm a big pushka when it comes to anything involving death and/or dismemberment. Thanks again.

Not dangerous other than make sure you always use a good respirator. The high voltage will bite a little but nothing serious... less than a spark plug.

Looks to be easier and cheaper than paint perhaps. Last time I bought primer, thinner, hardener, reducer, and paint it cost a fortune. Skip all that and buy a LB of powder

Chip resistant, scratch resistant, chemical resistant, far better than paint.

Make a mistake spraying just blow it back off and do over, can't do that with paint!

                Less toxic fumes than paint.

Only drawback is have to bake parts so need a oven large enough for the work and parts have to be able to be baked. If the part has some rubbers, bondo or fiberglass patches etc.. may not be able to powder coat them
