    Re: sand blasting medea

For normal paint/rust removal I use black beauty (coal slag). It costs around $12 for 100 lbs. You can recycle it 3 or 4 times. Aluminum oxide is a good choice for cabinets because it can be recycled many times. The only bad part is it costs around $30 for 50 lbs.

Here where I live there is a company named Porter Warner Industries. I don't know if their nationwide or not but I just purchased 300 lbs yesterday for $41 inc tax. They have a significant price break at 1000 lbs dropping down to around $7 per 100 lbs. The city I live in is a foundry town so this company caters to the local foundries maybe making for better prices. Pull out your yellow pages and look under Sandblasting Equip. & Supplies. then start ringing their phone you might be surprised what you find.

Try looking up blasting equipment in the yellow pages. I bought my black beauty at a local blasting supply place. Much cheaper than mail order.

Here in the Pittsburgh area all the redi-mix concrete / builder supply places have it Black Beauty or white silica sand (#1 Q-roc) or ask a local auto body shop where they get theres. We use alot of Q-roc around here it's made in Maryland.

I hope I'm not too late. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT buy media at Harbor. They don't specialize in it and you end up getting jipped, taken, fooled! Try a search and find a reputable supplier. I get mine on ebay. Just look up sandblasting media and you'll find them. I don't know if we can mention names. Here's the abreviation: C.S.
                Good luck.....and happy blasting...
