  • Cleaning Masking Supplies

    Hi everyone

we have been having problems with the plugs we use for masking our parts, the problem is :

when we use the plug we get a normal buildup all over the plug ok??
and whenever we try to use them again the buildup on the plug "melts" and creates a buildup in the part causing us reworks.

Do you have any suggestions for cleaning the plugs or any suggestion to remove this buildup

    Thanks!!

when i use my plugs to cover holes, after the part is cured and cooled i remove the plugs and roll them and bend them to crack the cured powder then scrape the residue off. this should be good enough to remove most all the buildup. if not you can heat the plugs up on a metal sheet to cure temp and then scrape the residue off
when in doubt polish it out/ why replace it when you can refinish it

I just remove them before placing the part in the oven
you have to be carefull not to disturb the powder

I do the same as pickleboy but after I peel the powder off I put them inside a piece of 0000 steel wool and roll em around a bit and the rest comes right off.

That is awfully brave. I can see doing that causing me many cuss words.
