  • powder coating alloy wheels

hello all,i have a question from my friend, can anyone help?
my friend is interested in getting his car alloys powder coated,he know basic wheel prep, but would like to know the process involved and any common problems to watch out for,how hard is the process and is it costly.
his alloy do have signs of 'curb rash' which i can look at and if possible do the prep.obviously depending on how much damage there is.
    many thanks

    Re: powder coating alloy wheels

I just got done with some alloys. All I did was wire wheel the whole rim because the guy was wanting a satin black on them. I properly pretreated them with aluminum chromate and powder coated. I had to lay the rim flat on my rack and ground my gun to the backside of it to establish a good ground so it didn't faraday badly. Also it might help to heat the rim up to around 150* and shooting it to reduce faraday. It takes alot of time to heat the rim up due to the aluminum loves the heat and soaks it up. Thats my experience...
