  • What's the most aggressive blasting media?

    For my blasting cabinet.

I'm trying to figure out what will work best for quickly blasting rusty old parts.

I'm not really worried about the quality of the finish, just want to get the job done without spending a huge amount of time.

I was going to pick up some 80grit aluminum oxide, but the guys at the hardware store talked me into some 30/60 "copper crush". Wanted to check with you guys before I fill the cabinet.

AO works fine for me.If you don't have carbide tips you better get some.

The most aggressive is silicon carbide. Some blaster warn not to use it in their units as the dust remover has to be made to withstand the abrasive.

Another department put it in our shops unit, labeled NOT to use silicon carbide. They cut a hole in the grid in the cabinet bottom and damaged the impeller in the dust removal turbine. It will
eat a hole through a polyethylene cabinet.

The one I try to keep in our unit is aluminum oxide as we do all types of metals in ours. I have not had any experience with coal slag.
