  • Problem with Clear Coat on Al. Wheel

I clear coated (Columbia Clear)a polished al. wheel and it has pin holes.

How can I fix this? Can it just be sanded and re-coated or does it all have to come off?

    Thanks

    Fred Mc

the pin holes are from the wheel out gassing on you. strip it, re-polish, outgas the wheel then re shoot the clear. you just created quite a headache for yourself bro! if it's for a client that is

Its not a customer wheel, its my own.

Is there a chemical stripper I can use?

      Thanks

yes there are quite a few out there. the cheap ones are aircraft stripper & gasket remover both available @ any auto parts store. the good stuff, IMO, is from solventkleen. it's there dizzolve 1012. caswell sells it also I think under a different name, maybe I'm wrong though.

Well, I was told to reheat it to 385 for 15 minutes, let it cool for 5, then re shoot. That just made it worse.

So off I went to the autoparts store for some spray-on aircraft stripper. I sprayed it on, it foams up and I left it for 15 minutes or so. Then it just power washed off real easy. No rubbing, scrubbing, or even swearing.

Now to outgas and re shoot.

I was also told to shoot it hot. Is that right? The first wheel I did turned out nice and I shot it cold.

          Thanks
