  • How do I wire up a 220 to my box?

I know, I know, "Get a electrician". I was hoping though to find just a basic explanation. I use to do some building maintenance at an apartment complex & I had to change out electric heaters and everything, so I have worked with electricity but I have never wired up a 220 outlet. I know how to do the receptacle but don't know about wiring into the main box. I belive I will need a dual pole breaker..any suggestions? Beside get an electrician ?...

Ps, I know where the (always live) spots are in the box!

you are correct about the breaker it has to be double pole. other than that it is the same as any circuit. if you use 3 wire 2 go to the breaker and white to common bar, if 4 wire then 2 to breaker and white and bare ground to common bar and ground stud.
when in doubt polish it out/ why replace it when you can refinish it

Cool, thanks! thats what I thought, pretty straight forward. I searched around and found this if anyone else is interested in the 220 install. Good info.

Well I wired it all up today. It was super easy and works great! The best part is I didn't kill myself! Not even a little bit. Now I just need a blaster and a air compressor.
