What type of company, bussiness, should I be looking at to purchase mineral wool ? TIA Steve

I bought mine from a company that sells industrial insulation. google rock wool or mineral wool. I would also suggest you read some of the information on mineral wool insulation so you can make the right decision on which one to buy. There are several types in various thicknesses and grades. I ultimately changed the design of my oven to suit the insulation. I went with 9lb 3" thick rigid boards and used loose 6lb batting to insulate my wiring and element trays. I believe the 9lb represents the weight per sq ft. That weight increases with the thickness of the board, the weight(thickness of the fiber) of the wool and the amount of slag used in making the insulation. My oven is 36"X36"X60" and it cost $109 for all the insulation, with a couple of boards left over. For aproximately the same amount of insulating ability in fiberglass I estimated it would have cost about $225. I would highly recommend that you do the research and run the numbers yourself, because your situation and your resources may be vastly different than mine. I was able to find a local company to supply me with what I needed at a reasonable cost. I also spent about a month planning and researching all the possibilities that were in my reach. When planning and building an oven knowledge is your best tool. -

Check out Rugg lumber or similar stores. They sell a mineral wool called Thermafiber which is what I used in my oven. It is 3 inches thick.Comment

also try McMaster-Carr you can get 2" mineral wool panels 24" x 48" for around 7 eachComment
