Cathode placement and quantity

I’m setting up a new ano tank and see that the common practice is two cathodes on opposing sides. What about the use of three cathodes in a triangle pattern? Or four cathodes? Good, bad or doesn’t matter as long as you stay with the 3:1 ratio?
